Kid's Summer Reading Program

Join us for our annual Kid's Summer Reading Program! This year, kids ages 5 and up will be tracking all online. Register on ReadSquared, track your reading, and win prizes! There will be a PDF reading log on our website if you prefer tracking on paper, but reading must be logged online in order to redeem prizes. Kids under 5 can pick up an activity sheet at the library, and when it's completed they get a free book! Teen program details TBD.

Ticket to Read: Adult Summer Reading

Ages 18 and up. June 5th—August 5th We are playing Ticket to Read this summer and traveling the USA to win prizes! Choose and complete up to 6 routes by reading books set in the corresponding states or written by authors from those states. Each route consists of 4 books. Complete 1 route and choose a small prize. Complete 2 routes and receive library coupons. Complete 3 routes and get entered into a $25 gift card drawing. Complete 4 routes and get entered into a grand prize $50 gift card drawing. Each additional route completed earns you an additional entry into the grand prize drawing. All prizes must be claimed and entries must be received by Aug 5. All prize drawings will take place on Aug 7.

Sing Song Yoga for Families

Join Deb Weiss-Gelmi for Sing Song Yoga and Literacy! Kids of all ages and their adults can join us for stories, songs, and yoga. All ages welcome. Families, please bring yoga mats or beach towels for each person.

Adult Book Group: "The Ways We Hide" with Virtual Author Visit

Please join our book group! This month we will be discussing "The Ways We Hide" by Kristina McMorris. Copies of the book will be available at the circulation desk while supplies last. Additionally, the author will be joining us for 30 minutes to discuss the book with us. Are you a crafty person? Do you have crafts that you just can't seem to get done at home? Now is your time to finish them! Bring the craft you are currently working on (or have been waiting to start), whether it is knitting, quilting, scrapbooking, or anything else! Come and spend time socializing, sharing crafting experience, and enjoying snacks. Please bring along everything you need for your own craft. The library will provide tables, chairs, and snacks. Designed for families with children ages birth to 5 years old. Monthly sessions are based on a children's book, with a story, finger plays, crafts, and activities centered around the book. All About Butterflies

Join us to learn all about butterflies! This summer, GTPL will have monarch caterpillars in the lobby and we will watch them grow, form a chrysalis, and finally turn into butterflies. During this program, kids will read a story, meet the caterpillars, make a butterfly feeder and other crafts, and take home seeds to plant their own butterfly garden! Ages 6+. Absolute Beginners Watercolor Painting

Have you ever wanted to start painting with watercolors but aren't sure where to start? This is the class for you! The House of Elements in Grandville will teach the basics of watercolor painting including how to set up your workstation, keep your brushes clean, how to blend colors, use different brush types, apply on canvas, and more! All the supplies you need will be provided at the class." This class was taught in April 2022, Sept 2022, and Feb 2022 and due to limited space, we ask that if you attended those classes you let others register for this one. The level 2 class is 8/15/23. You must register with a staff member in the library or over the phone at 616-457-9620. Please cancel your registration if you become unable to attend.

Want to try cooking or baking something new but aren't sure where to begin? Pick up a Spice of Life: Grab & Go Kit from the library. Each month will feature a new recipe with the different herbs and spices needed for the dish. The kits are first come, first serve, while supplies last! No registration is required. One kit per person, please. This month's feature is a Father's Day breakfast pancake kit. Kits will be available starting at 10 AM.

SRP Performer Exotic Zoo

Join us for a live animal show with Exotic Zoo! Learn about rare and endangered species, see animals up close, and even touch some. Past animals have included an alligator, silver fox, baboon, ring tailed lemur, reticulated python, giant tortoise, and more! This program will take place outside unless it's raining. You may bring cushions or blankets to sit on, and if you bring chairs that sit high off the ground please be sure to sit at the back so those sitting on the ground can see. Children will only be invited to touch or interact with animals that are safe. Some animals only adults will be able to interact with, and some we will all have to look at but not touch. Please be sure to listen to the presenter's instructions so that we can keep everyone safe!
