Township Assessor & Contact Information
Assessing services are provided through a contractual agreement with Ottawa County. Brian Busscher, Ottawa County Equalization Director, serves as the Township Assessor. Assessing Division Manager Connor Galligan is the primary point of contact for Georgetown residents and is available at the Township office on Tuesday mornings from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, or by appointment. The Ottawa County Assessing Division can be reached at 616-846-8262 during customary business hours. Email may be directed to assessing@miottawa.org.
Additionally, taxpayer inquiries may be sent directly to Connor Galligan, Assessing Division Manager, at 616-738-4623 or email cgalligan@miottawa.org.
Inquiries, correspondence, voicemails, emails, and all other messages will be answered within seven business days by the Assessor’s Office. In-person meetings are scheduled as needed with the Assessor or designated staff to discuss any inquiries. Please use the contact information above to set up an appointment with the appropriate staff member during normal business hours. General assessment records may be viewed online at bsaonline.com. Otherwise, inspection or copies of routine records may be handled by contacting the Assessor’s Office as described above. Large reproduction of files may require a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. FOIA requests may be made to the Township Clerk’s Office and emailed to contact@georgetown-mi.gov.
In addition to the March Board of Review, a taxpayer may contact the Assessor’s Office as described above for the Assessor or appropriate staff to hear and/or resolve informal disputes as allowed by Michigan law.
Purpose of the Assessor
The assessor establishes the assessed value for all property each year. A notice is mailed to all property owners in February, informing the owner of any change in their assessed value. The Township Board of Review meets each March to hear any appeals of the assessments. You can compare assessments or obtain detailed information for any parcel in the Township on our Property Information System.
Treasurer & Taxes
The treasurer is responsible for the billing and collection of the property tax. The treasurer takes the taxable value established by the assessor and applies the millage rates determined by each government entity involved. Summer and winter taxes are billed July 1 and December 1, respectively, and are payable without penalty by September 14 and February 14, respectively. Property information is available online, including assessing, taxes, and special assessments, on our Property Information System. Credit card payments for current tax bills are also accepted online (3% convenience fee applies).
You may now make payments directly from your bank account using an electronic check without incuring a service fee!
